Our Experience

Firstly, thank you again to OS1st for providing sizes and products for both Rich and I to review and test this wide array of products out together!

To begin this review I will start with the FS4+ Compression Bracing Socks. This compression zone technology aims to combat plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis as well as reduce calf pain, shin splints, arch & heel pain and reduce welling.

OS1ST PRODUCT REVIEW

A few of the performance features of these compression socks are that they are composed of a soft, moisture-wicking fabric, they support muscle stability, it is scientifically proven to improve circulation and ultimately aid in recovery. There is 360 degree blister protection for even the most avid and intense athlete, a Y-Gore heel for anatomical fit and finally, a seamless construction.

For myself, I found that these compression socks felt great on my feet! They were primarily used post lower body sessions, and I genuinely do think that they helped to decrease my recovery time. From the quality material and structuring, I felt that they were some of the best compression gear that I had yet to experience. If you take note of the fine details of how each dimension of the sock is constructed, you can easily see how each padding, striation and cut is designed for targeted conditions.

The socks feel as though they give you the exact same support as a performance calf sleeve, but with the flex and breathability in the foot to target both calf, achilles and foot arch.

Rich has pretty wide feet and noticed that they were really tight to get the lower part of the calf (narrowest point) over, but once they were on, agreed that they felt very plush and beneficial. He embraced his bright pink pair and that’s a thumbs up from the both of us!

Below you can see the exact design of the bracing sock and how it is crafted by zones.

Next, were the FS4 Plantar Fasciitis Socks. This compression zone technology aims to prevent and aid in the recovery of plantar fasciitis, designed with the Y-Gore heel for anatomical shape, constructed without seam, improves biomechanic, and also includes the 360 degree blister protection.

OS1ST PRODUCT REVIEWFor this review, I was wearing the No Show Double Tab and found them to be incredibly comfortable, especially in my Prio’s by Xero. The “lip” on the ankle is very comfortable on the Achilles and does not dig in during activity, but protects from the harsh rubbing that some shoes may cause.

I would recommend these socks to any athlete putting in a decent mileage. ALL RUNNERS… pay very close attention and invest in my favorite phrase, “quality over quantity”. The OS1st PF socks are just that, and a runners dream. They were incredibly lightweight, supportive, soft and gave my arch the support that I thought could only come from specialist insoles.

I have tried and tested many compression-like socks before, ones that leave my feet sweaty, begging for air, and over time wear uncomfortably on various parts of my feet. These are not those socks.

For Rich, these reminded him of the kind of no-rub socks he used to put into his spikes and sprint in. He said he could really feel the areas of support offered by the sock, particularly under the arch area. Not too dissimilar to other concepts looking to boost venous flow through the arch, such as the Footbeat Sport, but at a fraction of the cost. He now has a new favorite pair of socks!

Similar to the full length socks, there are four zones of graduated compression that allow the foot to flex and move freely yet supported in the most natural way. Below you can see an example of the design of the FS4’s.

OS1ST PRODUCT REVIEW

Finally, the CS6 Performance Calf Sleeve. Aimed to target the conditions of achilles tendonitis, shin splints, leg cramps, aching legs and feet, and provide optimal circulation.

OS1ST PRODUCT REVIEW

As much as I loved the long compression socks listed above, I found that the calf sleeve was my absolute favorite when it came to more rough terrain, as well as on the treadmill- and here’s why: One of the key performance features of this sleeve (like many other calf compression sleeves) is that it reduces the impact of vibration from the calf muscle which often results in the all-too-familiar shin splints. Not only did I noticeably feel a reduced pressure on impact, but I felt like I had fresh legs even after the most grueling workout, presumably as my calves had remained more stable during the entire session rather than muscular shock and jarring from constant impact. I felt like I had more confidence in my gait when wearing the sleeves.

Rich needed calf sleeves when training at his highest performance levels due to the nature of his sport- very explosive, sprint and plyometric-based activity, pushing heavy loads. A real recipe for shin splints, and in his bobsled career, he missed several training blocks as a result. All this to say, Rich knows a good calf sleeve! As a guide for anyone interested, these are a little longer in length than the sizing from Compressport, and featured an ‘achilles stabilizer zone’. For Rich these were his favorite of the three products, I think because of his needs, sporting background, and familiarity with this type of product. He has never been one for the long runs, and is much more explosively tuned. He mentioned also that they were not restrictive at all when it came to plantar- & dorsiflexion.

The CS6 sports calf compression sleeve comes complete with 6 zones of comfort and support, as seen below:

Positives

  1. Design: I could not have been more impressed with how meticulously each product was created. This is truly a product designed for a purpose and backed by science to provide people with the ultimate tool in recovery.
  2. Natural Support: Many forms of compression gear are quite limiting in what they can offer. Some serve great purposes in one area whilst compromising another. OS1st is support that moves with you naturally and dominates in providing a product that accounts for every need.
  3. Science-based: Don’t just take our word for it. Below are the exact links that show OS1st is truly a science-based company on a mission to serve nothing short of a quality experience for its audience.
  4. Colors: Who doesn’t love options!? Not only are there a wide range of colors to choose from, but the OS1st logo is reflective, allowing people to train in style and with added visibility.
  5. Variety Of Products: OS1st offers a wide array of products ranging from bunion sleeves to wrist sleeves, all in really neat, compact packaging. Click Here to see the full catalog offered by OS1st!

Negatives

As I stated before, this is a quality over quantity product, and with that comes a quality price. Below are a list of the prices for the products listed above. Though I do not believe this is necessarily a negative point, it is important to note that these are not your standard compression gear and may be priced a bit higher than what many readers may be used to.

  • FS4+ Bracing Socks: $49.99 Comes with one (1) pair of socks per package.
  • FS4 Plantar Fasciitis Socks: $24.99 Comes with one (1) pair of socks per package.
  • CS6 Sports Calf Compression Sleeve: $39.99 Comes with two (2) compression calf sleeves per package.

Conclusions

Overall, if you’re an active individual, super-athlete or someone looking for serious targeted pain relief, OS1st really is a one stop shop. I highly encourage all of the readers to browse their catalog and treat their bodies to the pleasures of relief that their products can provide- they definitely have a lot of information to back up their products too, which is great in our books- as our regular readers know, we are all about cutting through the fitness industry B.S and getting to the facts!

Additional Note: In the midst of the insane amounts of literature and goodies that OS1st sent for review, I stumbled across a product in their catalog called the HV3 Bunion Bracing Sleeve.

As someone who has had double bunionectomy’s and years of pain before and after the procedure, this product in particular was so neat to me! If anyone has endured the pain that bunions create, you know that you would move mountains to find anything to alleviate that pain. The fact that OS1st puts so much time and purpose behind their products to create ones that are so uniquely tailored to the various needs of active individuals really speaks volumes for the character behind this company. Bonus points!
