Our Experience
As we did with the Gear Beast Universal Handheld Smartphone Holder with Water Bottle, I wanted to test out the Gear Beast Running Backpack with a hike in the mountains of beautiful North Salt Lake City, UT.
Initially I had quite a bit of difficulty adjusting the straps to my liking. I preferred that they were quite tight but in doing so I felt that the “backpack” portion of the unit was sitting too high on my neck.
Any looser, and I felt like it would really just bounce too much for my liking. After about 5 minutes of tinkering with the product I can assure you I was able to find a comfortable position.
My iPhone 6+, house keys, I.D and chapstick all fit comfortably in this backpack without ever creating awkward pressure points, bouncing or getting the slightest bit damp from sweat!
I would say the only drawback for me as a runner and hiker was that I enjoy being able to easily access my phones screen, particularly to change songs when I am working out. That is why I LOVED Gear Beasts Handheld Smartphone Holder with Water Bottle from the previous review. That being said, there are multiple outlets for headphones to fit through conveniently in the backpack so if you have headphones that will change the song for you without having to touch your phones screen, then you will have no troubles at all and this would be the running/fitness backpack for you.
Usefulness For Athletes
One thing we LOVE to find for athletes are affordable products that are GREAT quality and that is exactly what you have with the Gear Beast Running Backpack. Many running backpacks will cost you a pretty penny and granted they are larger, but why would you want to carry more items on your back if you are training?
We scored this product as an 8.5 in terms of usefulness for athletes because we believe it is very affordable, well-made, gender-neutral and sleek product.
Please be mindful when purchasing that this backpack will not support much more than the products I listed above and is designed to streamline your training rather than be a bulky, heavy-duty backpack that can support things like water bottles.
Conclusions
Overall we have scored this product as a 9.5
I will note one last thing- I have used this backpack in many settings, including the gym and my morning sprint sessions as I physically cannot function unless I have music! (terrible habit I know). Even in just a sports bra I did not experience any chaffing whatsoever. There was absolutely no bounce as promised and it felt as if the backpack was merely an extension of myself rather than something I was carrying, you really do forget its even there!
